In a world where natural disasters can strike at any moment, the strength and compassion of communities come to light. Morocco, a country known for its rich culture and history, recently experienced a devastating earthquake that shook the lives of many. On 8th September 2023, an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 hit Morocco. This natural disaster brought about significant consequences for the people living there.
Imagine waking up one day and your home is no longer safe to live in. Many people in Morocco faced this scary situation. The earthquake shook the ground and buildings, causing fear and chaos. It happened suddenly, and its effects were felt far and wide. Homes were damaged, and some even crumbled to the ground.
Today, we share the story of relief efforts in the wake of this disaster and the urgent need for warm clothing, especially for children and infants.
Lives Disrupted
This earthquake was the strongest to hit Morocco in at least 120 years; hence, its consequences were as devastating as one could imagine. At least 50,000 homes were damaged and collapsed, leaving many at the mercy of the open sky.
Loss of Lives

The nation mourns for those who died in this natural disaster. The pain is immeasurable, and the impact on families is devastating. It is a time of collective grief and sadness as Morocco comes to terms with this tragic event. Each life lost was a heartbreaking story, leaving behind grieving loved ones.
The Cold Weather Challenge
To make things even harder, Morocco is facing cold weather. Winter in Morocco can be quite chilly. People, especially kids and infants, are more prone to cold without warm clothes and proper shelter. That has made the situation even more difficult for them.
With families displaced from their homes due to earthquake damage, the need for warmth became urgent, especially for vulnerable groups like children and infants. The cold weather posed health risks and added to the difficulties faced by those affected.
A Remote Village’s Struggle
Nestled in the heart of Morocco, Azroumeln, a remote village, faced unique challenges. It took us an exhausting 7-hour drive to reach this isolated community. The journey was long and treacherous, but the determination to help those in need pushed the team forward.
Aftershocks and Camaraderie
As the relief team arrived, the ground still quivered with aftershocks, a reminder of the unpredictable nature of such disasters. To truly understand the villagers’ plight, the team made the selfless decision to stay with them, sharing makeshift tents and experiencing firsthand the hardships faced by the survivors.
A Heartfelt Thank You
As we reflect on this challenging journey, we extend our deepest gratitude to all those who supported this donation drive. Your compassion and generosity have brought warmth to both bodies and hearts. Your kindness will forever be etched in the lives of those you’ve touched.
Call For Help
Our survey told us about the requirements in the village.
We bought 57 warm pieces of clothing for women, 50 for kids, and 30 pieces for newborns. The donation drives took place in Azroumeln, a small village in Morocco. While many NGOs and communities have come together, very little help reached this village due to its location.
As winter continues to bite, the call for support grows louder. It was an attempt to help the survivors survive the harsh winters of Morocco and help them be strong to rebuild their lives.
Remembering the Lost
As Morocco begins to heal and rebuild, it is crucial to remember and honor the lives that were lost in this earthquake. Each person is more than a statistic; they are cherished members of their families and communities.
While the earthquake and its consequences are undeniably devastating, Morocco’s resilience and the outpouring of support within and beyond are sources of hope. The road ahead is not easy, but with support and compassion, Morocco will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger.
