Frequently Asked Question

General Question

What is EK Plate Biryani, and what its do?

Ek Plate Biryani is a nonprofit organization registered in Canada since 2019. Our mission is to serve those in need by making food and clean water accessible to underserved communities.

We are actively working in Pakistan. In times of crisis and natural disasters, we’ve also extended support to Bangladesh, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, India, and the Philippines.

Thar is a desert region with very little rainfall and has been suffering from prolonged drought. As a result, malnourishment and waterborne diseases are widespread, especially among children under five. The situation is critical and requires immediate attention. Read more here.

Based on the location and its unique needs, we install deep well hand pumps, solar-powered water pumps, and solar agricultural pumps to provide sustainable water access.

We are currently focused on Thar and Larkana—both face acute water scarcity. InshaAllah, we plan to expand to more regions soon.

We provide freshly cooked meals and monthly ration packs to verified families from low-income backgrounds.

We regularly run food and ration drives in Karachi and Peshawar. Occasionally, we extend support to Balochistan, Thar, Jamshoro, and other remote parts of Sindh.

  • Solar-powered water pumps

  • Solar-powered agricultural pumps

  • Community hand pump: $1,200
  • Solar-powered hand pump: $3,000
  • Solar agricultural pump: $4,500

There are three main reasons:

  2. We ensure quality by using durable materials.
  3. Our commitment doesn’t end after installation—we conduct regular maintenance checks to ensure long-term functionality. Learn more with a full price breakdown.

Yes, you can fully sponsor any of our water projects.

Yes, you can. As the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
A man said: “My mother died suddenly, and I think that if she had spoken, she would have given in charity. Will I be rewarded if I give on her behalf?” He said: “Yes.”
(Narrated by Muslim)

When donating, simply add their name in the tribute section. If you miss it, email us at support@ekplatebiryani.com.

Once we receive your donation, the project is scheduled and typically completed within 2 to 3 months.

Our team receives requests from local communities. We personally visit each site to assess the land, water availability, population, and other key factors before selecting the appropriate solution.

Frequently Asked Question

Sadaqah & Zakah Question

Can I give Sadaqah Jariyah for a water project?

Absolutely. Donating for clean water is a form of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Among the good deeds whose reward will continue to reach a believer after his death are… a canal he dug, or a charity he gave during his life while healthy…”
(Narrated by Ibn Majah)

According to scholars, water projects are not eligible for Zakat since they benefit communities at large and do not have a specific individual owner.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked which charity is best. He replied: “A drink of water.”
